It was far from the race I was hoping for, but thanks to receiving encouragement (at just the right times) I made it to the finish line!!! At 65k I texted my crew (@its_jaybird) that id be dropping out of the race because I couldn’t run downhill anymore. The text never went through. When I got to Trient I saw my friend Chris and his family. They encouraged me to keep going. The joy on his son’s Tennyson face as he cheered for me “allez allez,” reminded me of my son Jair and I knew I had to at least get to the next aid station. Just before arriving at 80k I crossed paths with Gvido who was on the exact same boat as me. He couldn’t run downhill but wanted to make it to Chamonix. We put on our headlamps at Vallorcine, knowing there was still one more mountain 🏔 to climb. The last descent was way harder than I remember it from 2019. Everything hurt, but we made it! I’ve had humbling days like these before and I know there is great victory in them that I’ll continue to unpack.... 📸 @lukewebstr 📸 @elchristopherjones
