Beyond humbled to be part of the American Advertising Federation’s Hall of Achievement on its 30th anniversary (and to receive the Jack Averett Spirit Award), advertising and marketing’s highest honor.
From @GoldHouseCo to @AUHoldings, this spotlight means the world to us as we continue fighting for a raised floor. Thank you to Tiffany R. Warren and Helen Lin, especially, for always believing in us by building with us. You never forget who bet on you in your early days—and we’ll ensure it by the work we continue to do together.
I’m especially grateful to have learned from you how to ignore people’s questions about our intentions—because wHy WoUlD aNyOnE dO tHiS wOrK fUlL tImE—and, instead, weaponize impact. I’m not sure that raising the floor for as many people as possible has ever had to be charity—I think we’ve just told ourselves that the alternative is easier and, therefore, desirable. But it’s not good enough anymore. Being Better is a fool’s errand as it validates often-broken incumbents through band-aiding. And, while privilege-sounding, being The Only One doesn’t have to be lonely—in fact, being the Only One is the only way to be the best. Being the Only One with our eyes lets us look where everyone else has looked but see what none have seen—which means we can build what’s never been. Today is evidence: there are enough of us who’ve found ways to be good while building great things at the highest levels—through billions of dollars, for billions of people, for years to come.
An honor, again.
