Lizzo's aim with 'Special', as in her life and career, is to encourage people to express all kinds of love. For friends and family yes, but especially self-love. She wrote some 170 songs for the project over the span of three years, then pared it down to the 12 best to make a collection of songs that’s fun and overwhelmingly encouraging, borrowing influences from the '70s disco and '80s synthpop. The American singer and rapper co-wrote the title track 'Special' with @therontheron_ and the producers of the song, Anthony Daoud, @cloudology, Max Martin, and @popwansel. The album was originally titled 'In Case Nobody Told You' until Max Martin helped restructure the hook of the song 'Special', which Lizzo then changed the title of the album to. '2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)' is a funky and poppy jam with a disco-influenced beat. The song offers a lively chorus with call and response lines by a choir that works to both back her up and boost her ego. The song culminates during the last chorus, that features a keychange and a new delightful post-chorus melody ! Lizzo penned the track with Savan Kotecha, Peter Svensson, and the producers Ilya Salmanzadeh and Max Martin. The track marks the first time Max's longtime collaborator Kotecha has worked with the Swedish team after a few years. 🖤 The female empowerment summer anthem 'Grrrls', released last June 10 as a promotional single, is a playful song with an addictive girl-centric chorus.
