Its ok, I’ll wait..
The public displays of support for BLM in 2020 came and went, but not a lot has changed.
Black workers across most sectors continue to face significant gaps in pay, promotion and opportunity. In several cases its worse.
Black workers are over-represented in low-wage entry level positions and significantly underrepresented in senior leadership and executive roles. And it is the same in hospital/healthcare.
Not to mention higher reports of bullying, harassment and toxic work culture! And I would be lying if I said I had made it this far without experiencing and seeing it myself.
In the corporate world there is soooo much written about the “broken rung” - from entry level to management, lack of mentorship, poor support, obvious bias etc. What are you doing about it?
Well what about all the diversity and inclusion programmes? - according to Mckinsey in 2021, 40% of black workers did not believe them to be effective at all.
I don’t claim to have the solutions, but from companies contacting me with low ball offers, to casual work placed racism, obstructions to progress, and complete lack of executive representation.. I’m learning the game.. we need to be aware so that we can bring change..
Because if we don’t, Mckinsey & co estimates it will take 95 years to reach parity for black employees.
If you read it to the end, please support and share
