I just started reading this super heady philosophy-ish book that takes different religious ideas/imagery and explains them in a Bible on LSD kind of way lol. I’ve pretty much said, “Woah wtf,” the entire time reading it, but there are some real nuggets of wisdom, one in particular I want to share. This book uses the word “sin” quite a bit, which tends to always make me feel defensive as it’s become such a religiously weaponized term, but when I went to the back of the book, the glossary definition of “sin” was this: — “The consciousness of having a talent and not using it for the benefit of humankind.” — I really love that. Makes so much more sense to me and perhaps we can consider that the idea of god is this greater, all knowing statistical force that doesn’t necessarily fit into a digestible humanoid archetype (aka god is not a man.) And statistically, our existence is a miracle and we are at our highest form when we develop our skills and talents to be of benefit to this world and those around us.
