PORTRAIT I came across this gentleman whilst wandering through the limestone village of #Sancerre in the #LoireValley, #France 🍷🇫🇷 He was perched on a raised pathway on the corner of the street. He whipped out a cigarette and crossed his legs, adjusting himself so he was comfortable enough to enjoy it. With his newspaper neatly folded on his lap he puffed away at his cigarette 🚬 I watched him for a couple of minutes, taking in his mannerisms and the way he took pleasure in having a moment alone to savour. I realised then that I just had to take his picture. I approached him with my camera in my hand and spoke to him in really broken French - he hardly understood what I was trying to say. I handed him my business card and told him I wanted to take his portrait. He agreed and I'm so glad he did. He was so charming and was looking directly into the lense. He was exactly the kind of French caricature I hoped to find in one of these undisturbed villages. His daughter appeared from a restaurant nearby. I explained what I was doing and she said "But he is just my father." It really made me think about how we see the people we love. We take for granted their facial features, quirks and habits that make them into the character other's see or in this case the character the lense sees. I hope to capture more portrait shots because they're definitely one of my favourite styles of photography to shoot. #AliceBradleyPhotography #portrait #canon #camera #photographer #portraitshot #portraitphotography #people #faces #travelphotography #throughmylense#portraitphotographer #headshots #pursuitofportraits #discoverportraits #composition #details #photostyle
