26.2 miles, 5 boroughs + 5 bridges, alongside 51K+ runners in the greatest city in the world: a dream that’s been in the making for 2 years.🏃🏻‍♀️ Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel.🙏🏼 When I volunteered for the NYC Marathon in November of 2021, I remember asking myself that morning before heading out the door “who in their right mind would willingly put themselves through something so insane?” And after seeing firsthand how the city transformed in support of all of the runners, cheering for strangers in hopes of encouraging them along the way, it all made sense. I was beyond inspired and made it my goal to run it as well.🫡 2022 was spent completing the 9+1 program to qualify for the 2023 marathon - ran 9 races in the heat, cold and rain on very early mornings across the NJ & NY area, and racked up more miles in that year alone than in my entire life.👟 2023 started with slowly easing back into running after treating knee injuries from the year prior and regularly attending physical therapy, with formal marathon training starting in June. And before I knew it, November 5th arrived.🗓️ A shot of a cannon and the sound of New York, New York by Frank Sinatra was my cue to start, but what kept me going were the people. It is the best, biggest and most painful party I’ve ever attended😂🎉 The NYC marathon is truly unlike anything I’ve ever experienced..starting with the extra sazón from the spectators🤌🏼 THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to every single person who has supported me on this journey these past two years.🥂 To my dear friends and family who were along different parts of the route: you’ll never know exactly how much of a difference it made to have familiar faces to look forward to when I felt like I couldn’t advance another step or much less make it to the finish line - los ADORO. I undoubtedly have the best village of people in my corner🫂❤️ Honored to now be a part of the <1% of the world’s population to complete a marathon.🏅Even though my goal was just to cross the finish line, I’m also proud of myself for beating my personal record for a half marathon (before the knee & chest pain kicked in). #DeColombiaParaElMundo🇨🇴
