Some charges were dropped in today’s trial of 24 human rights defenders, who faced charges for bringing refugees and asylum seekers to safety in Lesbos, Greece. Among them is @sara_mardini963, sister to Olympic Swimmer, @yusramardini, whose stories are depicted in the @Netflix film ‘The Swimmers’. After the sisters fled conflict in Syria, Yusra went on to swim in both the Rio and Tokyo Olympic games and become an ambassador for UNHCR. While Sara returned to Lesbos to volunteer with refugees arriving on the island’s shores. Talking about the trial, fellow defendant @sean.binder, said: “We need to ensure that search and rescue is permitted, we need to ensure that people have the right to seek asylum.” We stand with Sara and all humanitarian workers.
