Yesterday I facetimed my mom from my kitchen. She answered from hers, 3,000 miles away and we were both in the middle of making the same salad for Rosh Hashanah: cherry tomatoes, figs, basil, hot peppers, olive oil + balsamic. Ingredients marking the end of Summer and the beginning of Fall. For the past few years, I’ve found myself in the kitchen making my mom’s recipes my own for the holiday. Carrying forward her care and warmth is a quiet ritual for me, a bridge between the home I come from and the one I am making. Opening my home and setting my table invites in the love and laughter of the people who will carry me into the new year. I am grateful for rituals shaped by hope, reflection, connection, and the realities of life. Moments where hope and realism intertwine. This year I designed invitations and cards for dinner, each with a prayer on the back for the urgent protection of human life. May we strive to safeguard the dignity and well being of all children. May peace and justice fill your world. May we be among those who speak out and resist evil. And may we be among those who make peace and pursue justice. Xoxoxox and happy healthy new year 🧡
