Flashback to 'DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love' by @usher featuring American rapper @pitbull, that has recently turned 12 years old ! 🎛🖤🎚👯‍♂️ The europop and electronic dance party anthem was released in the summer of 2010 as the lead single from the American R&B singer's 'Versus EP', an extension to his sixth studio album, 'Raymond v. Raymond'. The song features guest vocals by Pitbull, who co-wrote the track with @awsuki and the song's producers, Max Martin and @shellback666. 'DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love' was originally written for Rihanna's fifth studio album, 'Loud', but never made it on to the record. Besides, this is the first of two tracks that Max Martin and his team have co-written for Usher, who would later join them in co-writing his hit single 'Scream' in 2012. 'DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love' sounds like a classic dancefloor banger from the early 2010s and shares a similar production with other singles featuring some contribution by Max et al. around that time - such as Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite' and Britney Spears' 'Till The World Ends'. The song also bears several other characteristics favored by the Swedish maestro back then : ▪︎ The chunky synth riff in the intro gets recycled in the background all along the rest of song. The same device is used in Britney Spears' 'If U Seek Amy', Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)', and Justin Timberlake's 'Can't Stop The Feeling!'. ▪︎ The focus on a huge chorus that clearly stands out from the verse, after a short break between the 2 sections and where additional synths are brought to make it sound full. As often in songs by the team, it is organized in two parts, with the second section going completely different ways melodically - "so dance dance like it's the last... get you right" -, before going back to the main hook "Cause baby tonight, the DJ got us fallin' in love again". It follows the structure AAbbA, where the energy in the "bb" section almost feels like a post-chorus inside the main hook...
