Wow, look at Saturn setting unrealistic beauty standards. 😤
Fine. It has our attention. Saturn is currently in opposition—in other words, directly opposite the Sun in our night sky. It's also near perigee, Saturn's closest approach to Earth.
Normally, this would make for a fantastic skywatching opportunity... if the light of the full Moon didn't get in the way. Fortunately, Saturn may still be visible with a decent telescope.
Look up around midnight local time, wherever you are, and see the ringed planet just west of the rising Moon.
In this 2012 natural color mosaic taken by the Cassini spacecraft, we see Saturn and its largest moon Titan.
Image Description: The gas giant Saturn, seen here in shades of yellow, yellow-green and light blue with faint swirling clouds, dominates this image taken by the Cassini spacecraft. Its rings are barely visible, bisecting the photo as a straight line at a slightly upward angle, but they cast a large, curved shadow on Saturn's southern hemisphere. Saturn's moon Titan is visible on the left side of this image, in front of both Saturn and its rings.
