Ultrarunning: a sport that will sometimes break your heart, but will always train your spirit. I went into this race more prepared than last time and yet I ran (or should I say hiked 😝?) almost 3 hours slower. I woke up feeling off, my stomach didn’t cooperate for the first 6 hours, and I missed a turn right after the marathon point that cost me a lot. Even with all the struggle, at Champex-lac (34 miles in) I held on to hope, and believed that maybe the day could still turn for better. I’ve heard stories of runners resurrecting in the second half of an ultra, I’ve witnessed it myself, but it did not happen for me. I can admit that if it wasn’t for the right encouragement I received, i was wanting to drop out. A lot of things went wrong, I even regretted not having my trekking poles. The one thing that went well is that I crossed the finish line, on a brutal day. And that I never felt alone out there 🙏🏽. It’s been 5 years since I’ve dropped from a race, and that has become valuable to me. Because if I coach and teach people to persevere, i better hold myself accountable to it. “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” - 1 Corinthians 9:27 My body is recovering fast. Faster than it ever has from a race like this. It’s both exciting and also frustrating wondering what the heck happened. The good news is none of the training, nor the efforts that have gone into this, will go to waste. One day I will fully receive that PRIZE. 📸 @lukewebstr
