@ian.walsh historic day at Maalaea “I rode a concept board that we worked on a couple years ago. It was a 6’6 with our usual rocker we’ve been using that I competed on for years. We added a ton of extra foam and distribute it through the board. The board worked absolutely incredible in the steep transitions on the drops. Fits well in the tight position in the barrels and on the wide open pumps. I thought the thickness would be a challenge to the responsiveness to the board, but it wasn’t at all. The thickness came in absolutely clutch for positioning, paddle power, and getting through the wind with the 50 mph offshore. I rode some of the deepest barrels of my life on this swell on back to back days on that board. She finally broke in the afternoon yesterday. I would love to try to replace that and maybe enhance it with a few notes that I felt from the day. The board did everything I visualized it doing with that extra volume on a big late barreling wave with long walls.”
