Gilberto Rivera is a new Art for Justice Artist Fellow 💫🔥🎉 Gilberto @rivera_g_054 is a painter and collage artist from Brooklyn, currently based in the Bronx. He grew up writing graffiti and developed his practice while incarcerated, finding artistic community at each detention facility and learning styles and techniques, including Impressionism, oil painting, ceramics, and abstract art. While incarcerated, Gilberto asserted his identity as an artist held in captivity, and brings his creativity and political activism to his current practice. He is a Right of Return fellow, and his work is featured in the Marking Time exhibition and @martos_gallery’s The Collective exhibition.
