My brave boy So resilient. It’s been 9 months since his diagnosis. Type 1 diabetes A desease we knew nothing about. I remember the first time I heard the doctor tell me in the emergency department “diabetes” I thought how? He isn’t unhealthy or overweight!? He barely has sugars! That’s where I learnt all about type 1 diabetes, T1D- is an autoimmune disease where his body attacked itself causing his pancreas to shut down. He now needs insulin to survive. 4 injections min a day. 💔 Not to mention the constant glucose checks, calculating his every meal. Everything including his showers. Yep showers- if he has a warm/ hot shower this brings his levels right down to even go into a hypoglycaemia. It’s turned our lives upside down but through it all he smiles and at times when he has caught me crying he reassures me. He is my hero and I hope that in his lifetime there is a cure Hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes is when your blood sugar drops. When you catch it early, you can take steps to raise your blood sugar. A severe drop in blood sugar can quickly become a life threatening event.
