And just like that, our Tour du Mont Blanc journey is complete. 100 miles, ~30k feet of gain, 3 countries, 7 days on the trail, 31+ hours of running and trekking, countless croissants and baguettes, and endless memories. Our #TMB trip was organized by @lizcgill of @runcationtravel. Bless her because we’d never have figured out the logistics ourselves. 🙏🏼 Our group ranged from fresh-out-of-college to 50+ years old, all with a shared love of running. It was a beautiful mix of ages and abilities, personalities and backgrounds. I fed off the youthful zest of the young mountain runners and was put at ease by the peaceful energy of the more seasoned runners. I truly loved everyone. Each day, we started together with the same destination in mind. Along the way way we’d spread out, going our own pace, everyone on their own little adventure. We’d all eventually meet back up at our refuge or hotel. We enjoyed meals together, deep belly laughs, great conversation, and sometimes awkward sleeping situations. We were all running the same 100 miles, getting to the same place each day, on our own time. Bearing witness to everyone’s personal voyage up and over a new mountain every day was honestly a gift. We’d often see the same faces along the trail, ending up at the same huts for the night. Like the couple trekking all the way with an 18 month old on their back, and the group of enthusiastic Spaniards who seemed most comfortable in their tighty whities. This was one of my favorite parts. The views... oh the views! Majestic, hard to comprehend and more beautiful than anything I’ve ever seen. The climbs... oh the climbs! My legs have never worked so hard, but it was worth every ache and pain. (The pizza and wine definitely softened the blow.) The people...I adored all the people. Especially @jajohnna, my partner in crime. I fell even more in love with her on this trip. My “non-runner” of a partner just completed 100 miles with me through some of the toughest mountains!
