Reel by @thethatchingguy I’ve mentioned previously how a thatch roof today is a sign of wealth and prosperity - but hundreds of years ago it was a sign you were a bit skint (translation: poor) After all, the fancy pants folk had moved on to tiles and here you are still fighting with the swans in the pond for the reeds! These days, a complete re-thatch could cost up to £25,000 (around $33,000) and there are about 800 “Master Thatchers” in the UK, to service between 55,000 and 60,000 thatched houses.
