"We came up with the idea of Funki Dreds because we were living with our parents and it was important to remain respectful. I'd wear my hat to cover my locks. We were smart enough as youths to shave the sides of our heads and then our parents couldn't see the locks. They were none the wiser. Believe me or not, that's how the Funki Dread started. The idea was to incorporate all that we had learned about faith and our culture. I was born and raised in Britain, London town to be precise. We came up with the manifesto a happy face, a thumpin' bass for a lovin' race. That was the idea of the Funki Dred." - From Jazzie B's book 'Reflections Of My Journey' [Out now - link in my highlights]
