You don’t realize how fast time flies until you look back at pictures that now feel like a distant memory. ✨ Story time of my childhood photo ✨ Setting: Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 For my kindergarten graduation, I wanted my hair straightened for the first time. Crazy how 5 year old me already wanted to conform to the “straight hair tendencies” I saw all around me. My mom blow dried my hair because I wouldn’t stop asking her to straighten it for me. This was a big event and I wanted to look good. This was the first event of MANY with straight hair. Now, I can’t leave the house without my curls looking RIGHT for any event 🥹🥰 What I felt... the insecurities to have straight hair like some of my classmates, seeing my titi’s with straight hair, and the biggest of all influencers, television, showing us what beauty standards were the norm... All played a huge role in how I saw myself & my self-esteem.
