As a Colorado kid, my close friend was shot in high school 3 years before Columbine as she and her coworkers all died while closing up a Chucky Cheese. The Mass I was composing for our choir together became a requiem in her honor. Then Columbine my freshman year in college, holding my friend who’d gone there, then Aurora at the movie theater of the mall where I got my prom outfit. Then Alan and I had a concert in Florida, and one of the Pulse survivors was giving us a ride home, showing us photos of his mom whom he lost that night. So yeah, I’m at a loss for words the past days. Cried myself to sleep last night reading a book about human kindness. “And I think it’s gonna rain today.” See you at the piano tonight.
