AHHHHHHHH THIS IS ME THIS IS MEEEEEEE-Okay, real talk. Over the past year, I knew I wanted to get involved with Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, especially after learning about the wide variety of opportunities they offered. (Yes, I’m looking at you, 2023 MT Audition Workshop 😉) I started by taking small steps, dipping my toes into productions like Rocky Horror (+ Frog and Toad) before gradually working my way up to Cats. But it wasn’t until Camp Rock that I truly felt like I had found my calling. To tell you the truth, this show felt like a breath of fresh air in so many ways: it marked my first Disney show in nearly six years, my first major acting role in quite a while, and it had marked my GRCT MainStage debut. Camp Rock is about finding your voice. It’s about discovering who you truly are, embracing your unique strengths, and having the courage to share them with the world. In many ways, it’s a journey of self-expression and growth, where you learn to trust yourself and those around you. It encourages us to step out of our comfort zones, face challenges head-on, and realize that our voices matter in every aspect of our lives. Despite the uncertainty of our world lately, the stage (both metaphorically and in present tense) becomes a place of healing, hope, and shared humanity. Through collaboration and creativity, we all can overcome challenges, foster empathy, and bring light into even the darkest times. To my cast and my crewmates, calling you family doesn’t even begin to cover the bond we’ve built together. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside such a brilliant and talented group of individuals. Between the daily quotes, backstage shenanigans, and even our warm-up routines (if you know you know), each one of you has made this journey unforgettable. You’ve filled my experience with laughter, inspiration, and a deeper love for the show than I ever could have imagined. Thank you also to everyone who attended this show.
