PARIAH is now part of the Criterion Collection + I’ve been trying to find the words...... Full circle moment...I was introduced to the @criterioncollection by @anslemasylum + #BradfordYoung via a film called Hunger...they talked abt it in a way where I had to see it ASAP. Found a Criterion DVD, watched and...*sigh*...I was *gobsmacked*...by the filmmaking, story, acting, everything. And bc it was a criterion collection dvd, they had extras in the form of interviews w/ the cast + crew. So I clicked to watch the director’s interview and...I see a black man named Steve McQueen. I had no idea the director was black. And I can’t quite describe the feeling...something about seeing this man’s face...listening to him talk abt this film I’d just experienced in a myriad of ways was just.....I quickly proceeded to pour my heart out on a note in my computer on the kind of work I want to be a part of + the kind of people/artists I want to work with. In a way the blinders were peeled back some more...maybe even ripped off. I was altered permanently. Thankfully. Anyway...being a part of the collection with this film that has gone far + wide, changed my life, clarified so much + continues to give me opportunities to connect w people who graciously share their stories w me is just...surreal.
