In March of 2021, we broke ground on The New York State Regional Food Hub (The Hub), a mission-driven 60,000-square-foot cold-storage facility located in Hunts Point in the South Bronx. The South Bronx is one of the most food insecure areas in New York City, despite being the entry point for the vast majority of the fresh produce New Yorkers eat. The Hub will allow GrowNYC to substantially increase the amount of local produce it delivers to the neighborhoods that need it most – and most importantly at prices residents can afford. Without the support of Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr (@cmsalamancajr_d17) who represents Hunts Point, this project could not have come to fruition. We thank Council Member Salamanca for being a strong ally in our fight to create a more sustainable food system, a champion for food justice, and for his continued support of this transformative project.
