Whilst black history month is coming to an end, our collective celebrates some of our inspiring icons in the combat world. Fredia Gibbs, the first African-American female Kickboxing ISKA world champion with the earned name of ‘the most dangerous woman in the world.’ Claressa Shields, two-time Olympic gold medalist, is the fastest boxer- male or female- to win titles in 3 weight classes. She also is the second female fighter to win those 3 belts in descending weight order. Laila Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali who held the WBC, WIBA, IWBF and IBA titles- and retired with an undefeated record of 24-0 (21 knockouts) Nicola Adams, another undefeated record holder, WBO female flyweight title, and the first female Olympic boxing champion. Danielle Perkins, amateur world champion on road to break into the unexplored frontier of women’s boxing in heavyweight. Alicia Ashley when 48, was the oldest boxer to win a world title (female WBC super bantamweight) and also the longest reigning active champion on Guinness Record. Natasha Jonas, holder of WBO female junior-middleweight, WBC super-welterweight, and European and world championships in amateur boxing. Chevelle Hallback, ‘Fist of Steel’, has fought in 5 weight classes of which she held 3 titles, and held IBA, IFBA, WIBA and WBAN boxing championships. Ann Wolfe who retired in 2006 (24-1 record), is the only boxer in history- male or female- to capture and defend 4 world titles in 4 weight classes simultaneously. Caroline Dubois, only 21 and a Youth Olympic, World and EU champion, is already aiming for a world title in next year. Alycia Baumgardner recently became the unified super-featherweight world champion in fight at O2 London. Following the footsteps of these icons and their ground-shaking achievements, women’s boxing is on a roll. 🖤
