This is with pain and a heavy heart that I see my dear friend Patrick Demarchelier go. I know that today posting about people you lose on Instagram has become the norm, but I am really not comfortable doing that, I would rather sit with my loss quietly. Yet I feel like I have to say something since I have shared so many years of collaboration, good work, as well as beautiful moments of joy and fun with Patrick. For those who knew him well, he was a father figure, and to have had witnessed him being stripped of what he loved, suffer from cancer, and struggle with the last part of life, is extremely painful to me. I last saw him in the Hamptons when he came to the house, frail but like a valiant warrior, he told me that his life was right where he wanted it, that he had no regrets, that he was happy away from his cameras, fashion and all the hypocrisy. For him, what was most important was his wife, whom he always loved, his children, and his grandchildren. Looking into my eyes, he said that he didn't miss anything else. Seeing him pull out of the driveway and turn back toward me with a little smile, I knew right there that I would never see him again, and that he had come to say goodbye. I will certainly miss Patrick, who I am sure rests in a peaceful place between the gentle colors of the sea in St Barths, a place he loved so very much. My heartfelt condolences are sent to Mia, Gustaf, Arthur, Victor and their children, with all my respect and love.
