This is a unique piece from the show in a sense that it's non-abstract, specifically emotional, and also political. Titled 'Rug from Bucha', this piece represents the sentiments of early April this year when the Russian troops had just retrieved from Bucha, Ukraine and the ravage of the violence became public to the global audience. Trying to make work that day didn't feel right until I realized I have the privilege of having a medium to document and share the sentiment. I was especially taken by the rugs and tapestries that were brought out by the survivors to cover the victims...a posthumous refuge. I carved two figures pressed against a thin veil which is essentially the entire chair. Douglas fir and acrylic paint On view at @matterstore All proceeds from the sale of this piece will go to charity Photo by @seandavidson
