2022 UTMB: 25:11, 50th place. Started off the race with a REAL LOW patch for the first 50k and may have just dug a deeper hole trying to claw my way back out. Though this was my lowest placing and one of my slowest race results, it was also one of my richest experiences in 10 years of racing. Exploring bits of the course as a family and having them out on the course for the longevity of the race was unbeatable. Yes, I wish I had a better day, and at the very least been able to run in the last 30 miles, but it didn’t play out that way. Hindsight is everything and there are things I could have done differently in training, pre-race prep, and race day execution. But I’m proud to have made it to the start and to have gutted out a rough day, and overall I walked away with a great experience. I’m not single, I’m not 30 anymore, and I don’t live in a van. I have a family, I’m in my mid 40’s, I work my ass off 60 hrs a week, and squeeze in space for running. These are not excuses for a marginal performance, but simply who I am. I love adventuring with my family, I love my job, and I still love running. Life fulfilled in balance. My preverbal bucket is full, and at times I may tip the balance and overdraw from the rhetorical energy bank account, but I’m not willing to trade any of it in. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to make it to the start line of UTMB and to get around the mountain. More so, it was so inspiring to witness first hand such stellar performances and feats of strength by so many friends and teammates. Way to keep raising the bar! So much love and appreciation for @freyswan for the continued support and patience of my antics, and for wrangling kids and prodding a haggard runner around the mountain. And my man, @filipposolaro for another year (going on 6!) of clutch crew support. Looking forward to flying lessons soon! Big shout out for @ekendall9 for all you do, you are incredible. And thanks to @thenorthface and @smartwool for the continued support over the years. I couldn’t have done it without you. Really. I can’t wait to get back at it! But now, its time for cyclocross!
