Ever fed and walked with wild African elephants? 🐘 📍 Knysna 🇿🇦 South Africa @knysnatrunkcall Fifteen minutes from Plettenberg (along the world-famous @gardenroute) is where you’ll find Knysna [Nai-z-na] Elephant Park 🐘. This park was founded in 1994, when elephants were being hunted for their ivory like nobody’s business. This park was opened, with only two elephants as a way to protect wild elephants from poachers and now, 20 years later it has rescued and rehabilitated over 40 elephants. Their aim is not to keep elephants here but to rehabilitate them into the wild. So you’ll see zebras 🦓 here too, which are kept here so that the elephants can get used to being around other animals. The elephant I am walking with is named Sally and she was one of the first two elephants to live here back in 1994. They keep her here as she has become surrogate mother to all the elephants who come here and it would do more harm than good to take her away from the herd. Even cooler, is that Geoffrey, one of the elephant keepers has been here since Sally [and harry who is now back in the wild] got here. So they’ve been friends for almost 30 years. If you visit here, you get to feed and walk with the elephants for as long as you’d like. This was such a beautiful experience, which I HIGHLY recommend. 🐘 Hop into my stories for more
