Inspired by the films of Hollis Frampton and Chelsea Girls by Andy Warhol, whose use of shifted and dyptical film cells were exercises in time-image subversion, NMDA’s 2Burrard Place in Vancouver uses three vertical strips of “image cells” (image=glass +frame=spandrels) with the ambition to produce movement along the 35 story tower facade. The cells are partially constructed at the top, moving from image to object. Six colors of gray are used to produce subtle diagonal stripe effects.
