Brazil’s Indigenous communities have never been in such danger. The recent report than a 12-year-old Yanomami girl was raped and murdered by illegal gold prospectors in the Amazon territory must be urgently investigated and prosecuted by the authorities. The girl’s village was also found to have been burned, while the other members of her group had disappeared. In another outrage that should immediately be investigated, a Yanomami child of just three disappeared in the Uraricoera River when the community was attacked by illicit miners.
