Back in 2015, the brand @MSCHF’s chief creative officer Lukas Bental was walking down Prince Street in New York, when someone’s footwear caught his eye—specifically, someone’s medical boot, seemingly for a broken foot. “I thought it was the most interestingly-designed object that I had ever seen,” Bental tells @chrisjallaire, adding he was struck by its function-over-fashion look. “It’s interesting to think about objects that aren’t designed to be an aesthetic; They’re so undesigned that, in a way, they end up looking really interesting and out-there.” The plastic Aircast boots resonated with Bental and the MSCHF team so much that, on October 19th, the art collective-slash-fashion label is now releasing a whole shoe inspired by it. In a bizarre way, the AC.1 boot is timely. Over the past few years, fashion has been obsessed with “ugly-chic” shoes. Would you wear $450 shoes that look like a cast? Tap the link in bio for more.
