Thank you Horizon Motorsports for sending us a care package! 📦 Opening the box to find these hoodies and thank you note were such a bright spot in the day. ☀️ Last month, I wrote a story on “Hammerhead”—Horizon Motorsport’s notorious father-son project. Although the car has received deserved media attention, I thought the story behind the build—the story of Russell and Cavan Cameron—was one that the industry hadn’t told yet. Despite the car’s accolades and 2,000 HP output, I found it fascinating that the real takeaway of the build was being able to acutely chart Cavan’s growth as a budding motorsport engineer. Something Russell, Cavan’s dad, said to me during our interview session was this: “Stay curious, ask questions, be humble. Listen as much as you talk. Racing is full of people who think they know everything.” The humility Russell had to take the co-pilot seat next to his son after everything he has achieved in his career was a lesson, too. In an industry that sometimes feels like it’s dictated by algorithms, Russell’s words were a reminder that everything is on the table to change—our vantage points, our friendships, our career paths. The platforms that we consider measures of our industry clout and influence can disappear as quickly as they’ve risen. Because of that, everything we stand for has to be based on more. I’m humbled to have penned a unique angle to a widely publicized car.
