I hope it’s not so late that it’s no longer relevant, but here’s my Pine to Palm post.
So folks, I ran 100 miles. Never in my wildest imagination did I anticipate winning a 100 miler. Nervous as I was to start this race I went into it from a place of contentment and joy. After being built up and reassured by the ever supportive circle of friends both real life and internet i went into this with an air of calm. I was ready. Just wanting to cross the finish line finally able to say I ran this distance. Therefore I ran it at my own pace. My own race.
When I found myself up front, I’d be lying if I said things didn’t change. Relentless forward profess was the key. Keep moving.
Of course there were lows, mile 80-85 were particularly hard.
I saved my legs for the last ten mile downhill, and I’m glad I did. 92 being the fastest split of the day.
It wasn’t until 4 miles from the finish though that I let myself believe that I had this. Coming into Ashland shortly before 3am I startled some sleeping heads I’m sure with my joyous shouts of “FUCK YEAH!!” and a couple solitary “yeeeew’s”.
Enough cannot be said for the support going into this, especially the support during this. My crew, led by @jennyjorggg with pacing and support by @giaochi__ and @mtnajc who on top of everything drove over 8 hours between aid stations to help carry me towards my ultimately selfish goal of running a remote point to point. Also huge thanks to @ryanmiller34 for coaching me and helping build me up to this point. Can’t forget @arcteryxseattle for staffing a whole store of people who cheer me on. I’m eternally grateful.
Also a heartfelt thanks to @ryanthrower and @agustinsandwich for the extra motivational beers before I drove down.
This post isn’t enough to sum up all the feels. But it’s a start.
