The calm before the storm. Dubrovnik 🇭🇷 Croatia So there I was, flexing my complexion on the Croatian coastline. Day 2 of our camper van adventure through Croatia. Four black people in a van; what could possibly go wrong, said Clé (@alivelikethewind). Damn Clayton, you jinxed us now I said. Sure enough. One day later, I was in a hospital bed being treated like a criminal for having fallen off my motorbike. Rewind - We had made it to Hvar on Day 3 of our trip and in typical Bellaworldwide fashion, I rented a motorbike with to explore the island. This is my favourite thing to do when I travel. Welp, enter “what could possibly go wrong?” here. As I’m turning a corner on a hill, I underestimated the angle I should have been on and fell on my side. A kind Croatian man saw this and drove us to the hospital nearby. The treatment we received at the hospital is what baffled me. After refusing to use the hospital’s boat (£600) to get to split where I needed to seek medical attention, the nurse who had offered it left the room visibly upset we’d be arranging our own. Next thing we knew, the police come into my room and began questioning us. I’m sitting here with my lip busted open, waiting to be transferred to another hospital in Split and the officers are refusing to let us go. While this is going on, a nurse came into our room and told us we needed to leave because other patients didn’t feel comfortable coming in because we were here. The officers continued their questioning and while I answered everything clearly, they took my id and refused to give it back stating they wanted to make sure I came back to the station after going to the main island hospital. After further questioning from us, they said they needed to decide whether or not they were pressing charges based on how bad my injuries were... When we asked why I would be charged since no crime was committed, they provided no clear answer and became aggressive with us to the point that an officer put his hand on his gun while grabbing Ashlee’s (@ashleemajormoss) phone out of her hand to prevent her from recording.
