Eleven years ago I put you in a car seat with layers of blankets, toys and mirrors. I would drive embarrassingly slow with one hand reached around to touch your cheek and check your breath. You were quiet, always content. I was terrified to break you or mess it all up, but you were ok. You gave me grace when I was clueless or tired. And loved me back when I needed to know I was doing ok. In my desperation to remember every day with you, I started taking pictures. Because of you, I found my place in this world. You were everything I needed in a surprise baby in my young world. You still are and everything more. My girl, welcome to eleven.
