ARCs are roughly printed months ahead of the pub date, before we have the final cover and interior, and sent to reviewers. Sometimes we have extras. The publishing industry recycles thousands of ARCs a year to keep them out of bookstores, which resell them for cheap, in theory undercutting sales of the final version.
