The world is on the brink of five climate tipping points, due to global warming of 1.1 oC. ⚠️⁠ ⁠ According to a study published in Science, new research indicates that the world is on the brink of five “disastrous” climate tipping points as global temperatures have exceeded the pre-industrial average by 1.1 oC.⁠ ⁠ These changes could lead to abrupt, irreversible and dangerous impacts with serious implications for humanity.⁠ ⁠ While this is really worrying, there is still hope. As Dr David Armstrong McKay at the University of Exeter, a lead author of the study said, “Every fraction of a degree that we stop beyond 1.5C reduces the likelihood of hitting more tipping points.”⁠ ⁠ Now, more than ever we must take action.
