I came across #TomiAdeyemi earlier this year when the pandemic decided to clear our social calendars and scrolling through endless Tiktok dances got old. Reading her debut novel Children of Blood and Bone was the perfect book for me to get lost in . The messages she masterfully built in this fantasy world that parallel our current society - systemic racism, prison systems, perception of darker skinned individuals to lighter skinned individuals - were so spot on. It was the strongest debut novel I've read in my life!
