As some may know and many do not, this account was founded, nurtured and curated by one man, Tony Shaw. It was never run in any official capacity, or by any monetary motive but rather as a project of passion by a man who deeply loved his city and the community within it. Each day was an opportunity to share the magic and charm of Newport Beach with the world, captured through the lens of some of his favorite photographers, the writings of likeminded Newport historians, or even through the amateur camera phone of an eager passersby’s eye-catching moment, because everyone’s experience was equally important. Tony Shaw passed away peacefully in his Newport Beach home on the evening of December 14, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Despite his declining health, he continued to joyfully share images throughout his illness. While we will be taking a brief break from continued posting, his family is committed to keeping the account alive and well in his honor in the very near future. For those wishing to pay their respects, a service will be held to celebrate his life at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach on February 11 at 11 AM. All are welcomed to attend.
