This new Japanese restaurant in SF has the prettiest sushi bowls and chunkiest sushi rolls I’ve ever seen // 📍 The Roll @theroll_sf Their menu comprises of delicious appetizers and a selection of Kaisen dons and futomaki. Kaisen dons are raw fish in rice bowls that you can enjoy as sashimi as well as for you to make your own hand rolls and futomaki (fat sushi rolls). The fish were so fresh and melted in my mouth (especially the hugeeeee scallop omg it was so tenderrrrrr!!), the seasoned rice was perfect for making hand rolls with the raw fish pieces, and they were so delicious! The futomaki were like a fusion of Korean kimbap and Japanese sushi - mostly Japanese sushi with the raw fish but with pickled radish and perilla leaf, some even with tamago (egg). The chonky rolls were such a delight, the flavors and textures complemented in each roll each other very well. The vegan soba roll was so unique with the delicate soba noodles rolled perfectly, it was such a tender piece to bite into and very tasty with its fillings.
