It is more in the realm of the fantastic, the miraculous, up there from where William Blake wrote his Laocoon .... Right there from where The Apostle Paul penned the epistles to the Romans, to the Galatians... Do you get the sense that it is those height from which Dave seems to descend into the world of the living with his jokes? It is precisely because he has visited that realm and yet returns to us still in human form that I find this man so incredibly brilliant. I am sure many have been granted access to the sublime, as Dave has. But, because of what they saw there and now understand, or fail to understand, they are operating in the fringes of society... no longer capable of joining in, of participating, of pretending....Now he’s outside, homeless, schizophrenic and taciturn. Suicided from society. Think Van Gogh. Think Antonin Artaud. For Christ, this ascension came first with a visit to the underworld. Matt 26 tells us the following account: “And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me, nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” I can't say that this call which few respond to is one which we today have a clear understanding of its significance, of its implications. Implications not only to he or she who is called, but for the rest of us who witness who is called. The night before his crucifixion, the apostles fell asleep on the blood sweating Christ who prayed to his father for deliverance. There in Gethsemane, we can see the pattern of negligence on full display. The result is in The Truth, crucified. We are today in Gethsemane. Those who speak the truth become the enemy of the zeitgeist. Salvation is to who endures until the end. May it be via a T-shirt, hoodie or a joke, aim at the truth. Speak as if we all depend on each word that comes out of your mouth. We shall soon return to the garden, until then, while outside, We shall be clothed by RIVINGTON roi Rebis.
