The Unbeatable Real-Life Nunchuk Princess: Mana Kimura When the most popular representation of women and martial arts in modern pop culture is Chun-Li, it’s incredibly refreshing to see someone as strong and lively as Mana Kimura. Known as the Nunchuck Princess [@thenunchuckprincess] online, she has amassed fans worldwide on TikTok with her astounding skills of - you guessed it - nunchucks. Kimura has been familiar with the discipline and focus revolving around learning musical instruments since she was a child, so getting into martial art was nothing new. As she started boxing, Kimura sought out a second hobby that wouldn’t need too many constraints, and nunchucks fell right into her lap. She has been documenting her progress as a nunchuck newbie on social media, shooting practice videos since day 1, in late 2021. Today, the London-based Kimura is the epitome of badass. However, it goes deeper than Kimura’s talent. Nunchucks are traditional Okinawan martial arts weapons often combined with intense training and the field, including other martial arts, is commonly dominated by men. On top of that, female characters practicing it in movies, cartoons, and video games, are often overly sexualized and generally depicted inaccurately. To counteract the discrediting representation and uplift women devoted to boxing, martial arts, weapon performance, and other killer fields, Kimura founded, along with director Jade Ang Jackman [@jadeangjackman], a monthly radio broadcast hosted by and for powerful women called Babes with Blades [@babeswblades]. It is crucial to include feminist discourse in every sphere of life, even in sports, which is notoriously saturated by men. In fact, there was no boxing for women in the Olympics until 2012, which has been exclusive for men since 1904. Creating an equal ground is vital in being a good sport, and people like Mana Kimura not only inspire but open new doors. #sabukaruonline
