For all you art house devotees, criterion collection loving, Indy movie geeks let the history books show how CRUCIAL his #SweetSweetbacksBaadasssssSong was to the world of filmmaking. The success of that movie showed Hollywood that films could be profitable outside the major system. I got familiar with his work from a humorous unlikely source (the last 90 seconds of #StevieWonder’s #SweetLittleGirl paints the picture of just how popular that film was—-) of course on MVPs solo records he quasi paid homage to Wonder (I recommend watching his son’s tribute to this epic moment in history —-@mariovanpeebles awesome jawn called #Baadasssss!) it’s also not lost on me that MLP passed away on the iconic 21st Day Of September. A day made famous by the very band he discovered & brought to the world @EarthWindAndFire via the soundtrack (their first recording before lighting the world ablaze with their music) Melvin was highly active & supportive of our jam sessions throughout the #BlackLily years and beyond. Such a cool cool cool gentleman. Very honored to have gotten to know him & be in his presence. Rest In Peace.
