Honestly, it feels very hard to “promote” anything right now. With Jim’s passing, I plan to dig up some old photos to share at OxyArts tomorrow. While we’re speaking about organizing in LA from the 90s through today, I’m reminded to deepen and center my reading and remarks on intergenerational collaboration and action. I will dig deeply today to find photos of Jim and give him honor tomorrow night. ———> Repost from @oxyarts • “Voice a Wild Dream”. What does this phrase mean to you? The title of our exhibition comes directly from a poem by traci kato-kiriyama (@traciakemi1), an LA based artist, writer, educator and community organizer. This line holds so much of the passion and vision of the collectives and artists in the exhibition who dared to voice their wildest dreams. Tracing strands of activism from 1968 - current day, we can see the ripple effect through three generations. You’re invited to read “Navigating with(out) instruments”, kato-kiriyama’s book of poetry, along with other inspiring texts and ephemera related to the exhibition in our reading nook. Stop by anytime Monday - Saturday 11am - 4pm to read, reflect and sit with these powerful works. Coming up later this month, Oct 25, 6PM: traci kato-kiriyama brings together a group of artists and community organizers in cross-cultural solidarity, performance and conversation. #navigatingwithoutinstruments
