A week ago from today on Wednesday June 8th, I married my best friend. Our original wedding date has been set for July 8th in Los Angeles, but a few weeks ago we decided to plan an additional wedding in Pittsburgh (where Ann’s family lives) for June 11th, as a “just in case” to ensure that Jill would be there. Her health was starting to really decline a couple weeks ago. A few days before the Pittsburgh wedding, Jill’s hospice nurse let us know that, unfortunately, she didn’t think Jill would make it until that Saturday June 11th and that we should do the wedding that day. So within a few hours, we pulled a wedding together and got married with immediate family in attendance. During our first dance Jill waved at Ann, and during the father daughter dance she blew a kiss. The next day, Jill took her final rest. It was one of the emotionally hardest things we have ever been through, but we are happy that she could be there and that we could do this for her. Jill’s trust and approval for me to marry her only daughter will forever mean the world to me. Jill’s support and love for our union is a big reason why we are here today.
