Some Cuban-American MAGA like to fancy themselves as somehow different from other immigrants. But here is the thing, racists are racists. They don’t give a shit if you fled 60 years ago, or 60 days ago. They don’t care if you fled Castro, Ortega, Maduro or poverty or violence. They don’t care if you descended from Spaniards or Mayans. They don’t care if you flew over the Florida Straits or swam across the Rio Grande. So many of my Cuban friends and neighbors are in denial, but to immigrant-hating MAGA, Cubans are just more brown “invaders” making America less white. It reminds of a wise proverb in Spanish: “cría cuervos y te sacarán los ojos,” which means “raise ravens, and they will peck your eyes out.” When you help elevate and elect bigots, they will discriminate against you too. #karma
