This season, Chautauqua opted for an artificial tree rather than a natural one so that we can discontinue cutting down living trees and encourage a more sustainable practice. Betsy Burgeson, Supervisor of Gardens and Landscapes, advocated for this eco-friendly choice. When re-used for many years, an artificial tree is better for the environment, and over time, makes better use of our staffing and other resources. Betsy did the research and provided the installation and decorating. This site was chosen after learning that many years ago, CHQ used to put a giant tree in Bestor Plaza so that it could be seen through the arches when walking down Vincent Avenue in the wintertime. We decided to bring back that tradition by locating the tree halfway up the brick walk. It looks especially gorgeous at night, lighting up the entire square with festive cheer. Check it out on the Plaza Cam! Or come enjoy it in person during our Winter Village, December 16 – 18. 🎄🌲🎄🌲 #CHQ2022 #christmas #holidays #christmasdecor #winter #wintertime #landscape
