Back in 2011, I spent a couple of weeks in China’s Qinling Mountains, when it was possible to go out with rangers to track truly wild giants pandas. This encounter remains one of my most cherished wildlife experiences. The panda had been habituated by researchers and was completely relaxed around me as he patrolled his territory and munched on bamboo. .
