SAME EXACT FORMULA! . . I think it’s extremely important to take your hair texture into account before moving forward with a color goal. I get inspiration photos all the time with mismatching textures and natural bases and it’s apparent to most that a natural brunette usually won’t get the exact same result as a natural blonde, but what about texture differences? . . These two colors look similar, but not exactly the same. Why? 🤔 Well, there’s a couple reasons. . With my 2 models, we started out at the exact same natural level, darkest brown. First and foremost, Fine hair lightens faster, resulting in less processing time and less lightening sessions; Compared to coarse hair, that requires more aggression to break through the melanin in the cortex of the hair, and more sessions. Because of the amount of processing time needed to get the hair as light, this results in a slightly drier appearance. There are ways to maintain the integrity of course and give the softest approach possible, but the fact is that hair that has been lightened more, will appear dryer. . . Secondly, the actual thickness of the hair strand has a lot to do with how color appears. Fine hair has 2 layers in the hair shaft whereas coarse hair has 3, an extra layer called the medulla. This isn’t black and white; some heads of hair consist of a combination while some medulla layers are thicker than others, but over-all, finer hairs lack of density in the hair shaft results in a softer appearance while coarse hairs density results in a more textured appearance. Notice how fine hair appears shinier and silkier whereas coarse hair appears more textured and “beachy”. . . So, even if you use the exact same formula, you’re going to get different results. Use this video to show your clients the difference in hair textures and how it affects color 🌈 . . For both of these models, I lightened and colormelted using @oligopro Blacklight & Calura Gloss, and protected and treated with @k18hair Mist & Lotion
