Camila, one of Huckleberry’s sleep consultants, shares 3 things to help improve newborn sleep.
😴 Limit wake times
Excessive tiredness makes it more difficult for your baby to fall asleep and stay asleep. Follow age-appropriate wake windows for your baby, which is typically 45 to 120 minutes in the first 4 months. It is also very normal to feel like feeding, burping, and changing your baby’s diaper is all you can do before they are sleepy again.
🍼 Work on full feeds
In the first few months of life, establishing full feeds is key! Whatever feeding method you choose for your baby, make it a priority to make sure your baby is gaining weight and feeling well after feeding for the first month. After that, focus on your baby getting full feeds throughout the day, so that little by little, their demand for overnight feeds decreases naturally.
🛁 Start a bedtime routine
You don’t have to wait until month 3 or 4 to implement a bedtime routine. The goal is for your baby to associate this routine with bedtime. This will pay off in the long run!
The first 4 months of life are the perfect time to build the right foundation to help your newborn (and you) get better sleep.
